“Once your mindset changes, everything on the outside will change along with it.”-Steve Maraboli
We all have negative self-talk and doubt at times, and sometimes that little negative voice in the back of your head comes to you at times when you least expect it. The worst is when it happens at 3am the night before a big event and you literally end up losing sleep over it! Anyone?
I recently learned about training mindset from the Flex Diet mentorship by Mike T Nelson and a key focus in improving mindset is to remember the 4 A’s:
• Awareness
• Acceptance
• Accountability
• Adaptation
With awareness, I help you to become aware of situations when you are perpetuating self-doubt like saying you are a failure because you decided to eat pizza instead of eating the chicken and veggies you meal prepped earlier in the week. Hey, we’re all humans! This often occurs unconsciously and the first step is for me to make you conscious of the language you are using.
For acceptance, I’ll ask you: “Would you ever let the way you talk to yourself talk to a family member that way?” So why are you letting yourself talk to yourself that way? You want to accept you are going to make the shift from a negative mindset to positive mindset.
As a coach, I’m not going to bark orders at you or micromanage and expect you to make a positive change. Rather, I am going to help guide you to take accountability for your actions and point out in a non-judgmental way when you are saying negative things about yourself. I remind you to use positive language and positive self-talk as much as possible. Yes, I can do this!
Adaptation to a positive mindset can occur with simple practice, performed consistently over time. Much like you see positive results with weight training the more you train, you too can see positive results with your mindset the more you train it.
Remember the 4 A’s of awareness, acceptance, accountability, and adaptation to begin training your mindset!
